Emerge Colorado seeks Democratic women who are committed to effective political leadership and are interested in running for elective office and who have:
Emerge Colorado will select 20-25 women from across the state who meet the above criteria and who we believe have the potential to be political leaders.
Emerge embraces diversity and encourages applications from all women regardless of age, race, color, national or ethnic origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, or physical ability. Currently 45% of our alumnae are women of color and over 30% are LGBTQ. Our mission to build the bench of Democratic women ready to run for office acknowledges both the systemic and historic barriers to running for office as well as the internalized barriers women experience. We highly encourage women of the New American Majority – Black women, Indigenous Women, Women of Color, LGBTQI+ women and nonbinary individuals, disabled women, young women, and women from other underrepresented communities to apply.
To be considered for the 2022 Emerge Colorado training program, applicants must complete a written application by the deadline as posted in the application. Written applications will be evaluated by a selection committee and qualified applicants will be invited to a video interview in October. Invitations to join the 2022 class will be extended in November.
The success of the Emerge Colorado program depends upon commitment to the program’s entire schedule by each participant. Over the six-month period, approximately 100 program hours are scheduled. Some time outside of regularly scheduled trainings will be necessary for homework and training preparation. While emergencies sometimes arise, attendance on the first day of training is mandatory and absence for any reason will result in a deferral to the following year. Please review the schedule below to ensure your availability to attend every training day.
The 2022 program will be a hybrid model of both in-person and online trainings. In-person trainings will be held in Denver, Colorado. We are aware that the COVID-19 pandemic may require fully-online programming to keep our participants safe, and we are prepared to do that if necessary.
Class trainings will run during one weekend of each month, typically from 8:00am – 3:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Optional weeknight trainings may also be offered.
Emerge Colorado will review completed written applications and select finalists for video-conferencing interviews. Finalists will be invited to attend a scheduled interview with the selection committee in October. We will schedule 30-minute interviews for candidates generally from 3-6pm on weeknights in October, but we will also offer weekend interview slots. We will make accommodations for candidates who are not able to make these scheduled interview slots.
A non-refundable application fee of $35 is required and must be submitted along with a completed application.
Tuition for the six-month program is $1,000. Payment plans are available and Emerge Colorado will assist program members with fundraising their tuition if needed. Financial need should not be a barrier to applying to the program. To that end:
The six-month program will take place in person in Denver on at least three of the six training weekends. We recognize that travel and overnight accommodations may be necessary depending on your location. Emerge Colorado will endeavor to assist with housing and travel costs. Requests to train virtually during in-person training weekends will be reviewed on a case-to-case basis. We highly encourage women from outside of the Denver metro area to apply.
